The standard Magento 2 checkout runs on the same heavy KnockoutJS stack as Luma. It is slow to load, difficult to customise and rigid in its structure. Adding a custom step or changing the layout requires deep Magento knowledge and often breaks other things in the process.
Hyvä Checkout replaces it entirely. Built on Alpine.js, it loads faster, renders cleanly and is designed to be customised. Custom steps, additional fields, conditional logic and bespoke layouts are all achievable without working against the framework.
